CapitaLand Data Centre (CLDC), a key player in the global data centre industry, is embarking on two significant projects in India, expanding its footprint in major corporate hubs—Navi Mumbai and Hyderabad. Blue Star has been awarded the MEP contracts for both projects, solidifying its role as a trusted partner in delivering critical infrastructure solutions.
In Navi Mumbai, strategically located near India’s business and financial hub, CLDC is developing a state-of-the-art data centre campus that will cater to hyperscalers. The facility consists of two multi-storey data centres—DC01 and DC02—featuring a combined IT load of 66 MW. These buildings, each with a Ground + 7 structure, will also house ancillary facilities such as a diesel generator building, STP, HSD yard, and substation yard.
Blue Star has been awarded the MEP works for DC01 Phase I, involving 11.1 MW of capacity. This marks Blue Star’s first data centre project to include the complete Supply, Installation, Testing, and Commissioning (SITC) of key long-lead items such as HT Panels, LT Panels, and Transformers. The project is being executed in collaboration with AECOM as the Design Consultant & QS and CBRE as the Project Management Consultant.
Key components of the work include the installation of electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, as well as 2250kVA transformers, cable tray systems, VRF systems, and dehumidifiers. The LEED-certified facility demands meticulous planning to meet CapitaLand’s high standards for safety, scalability, and performance. Despite challenges like tight timelines and stringent safety requirements, Blue Star’s extensive experience in delivering critical infrastructure projects ensures a successful and timely delivery.
Simultaneously, CapitaLand is also establishing a cutting-edge data centre in Madhapur, Hyderabad, a prominent corporate hub. The facility is designed with high floor loading capacity to support dense racks, high power capacity, and efficient cooling systems, making it ideal for large-scale operations.
Blue Star has been awarded the MEP works for the DC Building and GIS Building Phase I, covering a capacity of 7.6 MW. This is Blue Star’s first data centre project involving the complete SITC of major long-lead items such as transformers and LT panels. CBRE is overseeing project management, with SUDLOWS acting as the Service Consultant.
The scope of work includes the installation of high-side and low-side electrical systems, HVAC systems, and data hall interiors. Critical components include 14 transformers (39 MVA), 99 LT panels, 3 km of bus ducts, HT & LT cables, VRF systems, thermal storage tanks, containment systems, and raised flooring. The Tier-4, TIA 942-rated, and LEED-certified project is designed for scalability and optimized infrastructure.
Managing the 7.6 MW data centre within the eight-month timeline presents unique challenges, such as complex logistics in a busy urban environment and the transportation of heavy equipment to upper floors and terraces. However, Blue Star’s expertise in critical infrastructure projects, combined with its superior project management capabilities, ensures these challenges will be successfully addressed.
Blue Star is proud to collaborate with CapitaLand on both the Navi Mumbai and Hyderabad data centre projects. These ambitious ventures underscore Blue Star’s proven ability to manage complex MEP installations under challenging conditions. With a successful track record in similar projects, Blue Star reaffirms its commitment to delivering exceptional quality and timely results. Together with CapitaLand, Blue Star is helping to build a robust and scalable data centre infrastructure that supports the growing digital needs of India’s corporate sector.
Bharti Airtel, the Indian multinational leader in mobile telephony in India and in many countries abroad, has various subsidiaries through which the company offers other products and services to both B2B and B2C customers. Nxtra is one such subsidiary of Airtel which offers one of the largest networks of secure, scalable, and sustainable data centres in India to leading enterprises, hyperscalers, start-ups, SMEs and governments.
Nxtra’s latest infrastructure being planned is a Data Centre being set up at Mahape, Navi Mumbai. The 17.5 MW IT data load facility is a humungous project that will be an iconic data centre in the region when completed. This Tier III facility is designed to have a Silver LEED rating and a power usage efficiency of less than 1.5.
The PMC for this project is Turner & Townsend while the MEP Consultant is Jacobs.
Blue Star has been awarded the integrated MEP works for Phase 1 of this site which is currently under way, encompassing 7.9 MW of the 17.5 MW total IT load that the entire building is designed for. The order includes electrical works, HVAC works, HSD works, and DG low side works.
The detailed scope of the order includes the following. Electrical scope: SITC of bus ducts, cables, cable trays, lighting, distribution boards, industrial sockets, earthing, LPS, ISAT, and other low side electrical works. HVAC scope: SITC of thermal storage tanks, pumps, CSUs, VRFs, TFAs, fans, hot aisle containment, air distribution and low side works. HSD/DG low side scope: SITC of two 90-kilolitre HSD tanks, associated fuel piping, and DG low side works.
Being a high-tech infrastructure being set up by a global player, strict technical standards pertaining to data centres need to be followed at site. Quality safety standards for the project are extremely high. Moreover, it is a fast-track project that will require high manpower deployment at any point in time. Blue Star has immense experience in setting up data centres for multinationals, and hence, these challenges are easily overcome. Working with large manpower is again quite common in most Blue Star projects, as is working to tight timelines. The Company’s manpower handling capabilities and project management skills honed over decades of handling large projects will set Blue Star in good stead while completing this project.
The vast experience in MEP projects in general and expertise in data centre work in particular gathered over many such projects has ensured that this order was received by Blue Star from Nxtra, a first for the Company. Blue Star will put in its best efforts as always to ensure superior project delivery well in time while maintaining all standards required at site to ensure that the Company becomes a preferred partner for Nxtra in its future data centre projects.
