WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Capacity Building of Women Entrepreneurship

Blue Star has partnered with local NGOs to empower women through handicrafts training, focusing on basket making and coir mat production using locally abundant banana fibre. This initiative aims to create sustainable livelihoods and economic self- sufficiency for women by providing them comprehensive support, including market access and capacity building in business formation. The support received at every step ensures economic independence for these women.

Capacity Building Initiative for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs):

Blue Star, along with CII/CII Foundation, is establishing a Business Support Unit (BSU) to enhance the capabilities of FPOs, helping them to increase their income by improving management, market linkages, and access to advanced technologies.

Empowering Women Farmers to Becoming Entrepreneurs

Blue Star supported Kurunjipadi Arivai Farmer Producer Company Limited (KAFPCL), which is a transformative initiative focused on empowering women farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture in Kurinjipadi, Cuddalore district. The project has successfully mobilised over 600 women into Farmer Interest Groups (FIGs), enhancing their productivity and profitability. KAFPCL engages in rice and groundnut trading, milk aggregation, and organic farming practices, significantly increasing the members' income and improving their livelihoods. The initiative has also fostered gender equality, with women taking on leadership roles as directors and shareholders. Extensive training programmes have equipped these women with necessary skills to manage the FPOs effectively. The Company's sustainable business model addresses input concerns and ensures profitable sales, contributing to the overall economic and social development of the community.
